The 14. International Comics Festival “Salon stripa” was held in Belgrade, Serbia, from the 30th of September till the 2nd of October.
The official part of the festival was successful – 5 exhibitions, 10 official awards, 12 awards of the friends of the festival, numerous panels etc – but what is most important for a festival is visitors and engagement. There was an abundance of visiting comic fans and meetings of friends from the comic scenes.
Our co-founder, Zika Tamburic, held a panel with guests on “Modesty Comics and Modesty Stripovi in the Context of Domestic Comics Publishing” and another one on presenting our latest graphic novels in Serbian – It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken (Seth) and Cardboard City (Obrenovic and others), also published as an e-book in English on Modesty Comics. In addition, Zika has helped with an interview with Mary and Bryan Talbot, who were one of the main guests of the festival and had their own retrospective exhibition.
It is interesting that the Talbots have Dotters and One Bad Rat published in Serbia by “Modesty stripovi” and four Grandville books published by “Darkwood”.
Zika gave the Talbots walking tours of Belgrade and met with many friends from the domestic and international comics scenes, many of them taking place in the local kafanas (restaurants).
