La Biennale, Venice 2015

Modesty Comics got the opportunity to attend the 56th International Art Exhibition in Venice, so I packed my Fedora and motion sickness pills and was off!

Four days passed with the same speed as the Vaporetto as it bounced down the Grand Canal in a stream of sun-lit foam; it left a confused memory of fierce sunlight, ornate ceilings, cool marble interiors; of water everywhere, of nights at private palazzos and days getting lost down tiny streeets as Byron might have done; of fried flower zucchinis, melon and proscuitto, truffle pasta, a full wine glass always within arms reach and bellinis at Harry’s Bar.

And, of course, lots and LOTS of art.

I could tell you the full rundown of the festival, and include that Sarah Lucas created the English pavilion to look like ‘a desert… in a sea of custard’, or that Prada’s exhibition ‘Poratable Classic’ focuses on looking at classical art through it’s reduced-size copies and imitations from the 15th century onwards. I could give you my perspective on every exhibition, but I met so many fascinating people in Venice whose advice and opinions you should listen to over my own so here they are!
